This year, gas safety week falls on 16-22nd September and it will attempt to spread its safety message to the UK’s 21 million households. The annual week is designed to increase public knowledge about the importance of safe household gas practices, and highlight just how essential it is to have an annual gas safety check. The week is co-ordinates by the Gas Safe Register and supported by key bodies across the gas industry, including manufacturers, retailer and consumer bodies.

In the UK today, there are an incredible 21 million households using gas to heat their water and homes and to cook, but the safety of these cookers, gas fires and boilers is often tasks for granted. The fact is that thousands of people are diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning every year thanks to badly fitted and non-serviced leaking gas appliances. As well as the danger of CO2 poisoning, a leaking appliance can lead to fires and explosions.

There are different ways to get involved in Gas Safety Week. As a consumer, you can keep up to date with the events at: Gas Safety Week. Look out for updates in the media and for promotions from your energy provider. If you have children, why not ask their school if they will cover gas safety within lessons, and if you work with community organizations, youth groups or other associations, consider devoting some time to the topic of gas safety.

Given that September is also the month where many households will start to turn on their central heating, it can also be a good time to organize an annual gas safety check from a Gas Safe Certified engineer. Speak to our friendly team at London Property Inspections for more information, as our entire fleet of experienced engineers are suitably qualified and registered on the Gas Safe register.

It’s also a great month to invest in a Carbon Monoxide Detector, which can safeguard your family for just a few pounds. For more information about Gas Safety Check
